The Strip, Albufeira, is a road about one and a half miles long running from Montechoro, south of the Montechoro Hotel to the beach at Praia da Oura. It is bordered on both sides by a large number of bars and restaurants, getting progressively more lively the nearer you get to the beach. We think that the Montechoro end of the Strip is the “better” end, interesting but not quite so crowded.

Restaurants recommended by algarvia, starting from the top, or North end of the Strip include the following:-

Martinique

Large stylish restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating situated opposite the taxi rank at the top of the Strip. Good quality food served with efficiency and good humour. Also a nice place to stop for a coffee and/or drink during the day. Piped music adds to the atmosphere.

Manuel dos Frangos

Directly opposite Martinique, this restaurant specialises in chicken and prawns, served barbecued with or without piri-piri sauce, a spicy covering the tantalise the taste buds. The tomato salad is also delicious. This is a very good value restaurant and there is also a take away service available. Probably the best chicken piri-piri.

The Chor Bar

This is another large restaurant just south of Martinique and Manuel dos Frangos, on the corner of Rua Vasco Santana and the Strip. I never used to like this place but it has recently changed ownership and been revamped. I have been impressed with the quality and service and now regularly use it.

Mr Menu

A small restaurant producing fine food from the smallest of kitchens. Situated next to Bunnys Bar an opposite Johns Bar and run by Luis, an advertisement for shaved heads, who used to play for Benfica.

This is a firm favourite with algarvia, guests go there time and again. Good sized menu, Portuguese, despite the name of the place.

After several years association between Mr Menu and algarvia, Luis has kindly offered a 10% discount to any algarvia customers using his restaurant on production of a discount card which you will be provided with.

Highly Recommended

Taj Mahal

Fine Indian cusine in this ordinary looking restaurant opposite Mr Menu. Don’t be fooled by the appearance though, in our opinion far excels over the somewhat grander Mumtaz in the square behind Mr Menu.

Senhor Frogs

Not too far from the sling shot ride. This is a good place to get a pizza, eat in or takeaway. There is often a guy outside with a tray of samples, try one, you may be impressed. South end of the Strip (south of the pelican crossing)

Lisa's Pizza Restaurant.

Large Italian style restaurant serving pizzas plus, very good quality.

Jing Du

A little further down the Strip on the left as you go towars the beach, this is a very clean and effient Chinese restaurant. Good food and normal prices.

Restaurant Opoeta

A firm favourite, despite being at the bottom end of the Strip, past the disco bars, Opoeta is always busy, such is it’s popularity. Never had a bad meal there. Service also very good.
